I'm traveling by train (and bus, probably) from Rome to Florence with one night to stay in between. Where would I get my best hill town experience for that day and night. I was toying with training to Orvieto, and seeing if i could squeeze the bus to Civita and back to Orvieto to spend the night. Or is there a better train option that gets me the chance to get a hill town experience?

Yes- if you have just one night do get to Chivita... A couple of hours there will give a good first taste of flavor. We spent 4 hours and are anxious to get back for more exploration!
Orvieto is a good place to stay. We stayed in a Agriturismo outside Orvieto but it would require a car as the bus only wizzes by.
