Rome to Ferrari Museum Modena

Good afternoon. Will be in Rome for about 4 days and would like to take a direct train to Modena from Rome - my husband is interested in visiting the Ferrari Museum in Modena. I have researched and the tours are very expensive. So, as an alternative, I've looked up direct trains from Tiburtina and Termini rail stations in Rome that depart in the late afternoon - around 6 p.m. and stay in MOdena for one night -- to visit the Museum the following morning.

As to the Termini rail station, and since we do not speak Italian, how difficult is it to board the trains? I have looked up the rail stations online and they seem huge! Just afraid to get lost -- we are around 70 years of age.

Thank you -- any other suggestions? Thanks.

Tracks are all in the same area and on the same level at Termini station (and in all Italian stations but Bologna Centrale).

At Termini, you enter through the main doors and keep on walking straight through the shopping center for 5 minutes, then you see all the trains waiting side by side.

You are supposed to search for your train code on monitors headed "Partenze/Departures", departure tracks are listed as "Binario/Platform": https://images.app.goo.gl/VN8fh9p3JWk3vHF56

If you are taking the direct Freccia #9328 that leaves from Roma Termini at 19:25, it usually departs from platform 10, sometimes from platform 3. I couldn't find a direct earlier train to Modena.

you will be booked on a specific train at a particular time. You will have an assigned seat in a particular car. That train will have a number. You'll have the number on your reservation/ticket. The platforms (tracks) at Termini are all parallel and in order. There will be a departure board (actually many) at the station. The trains will be listed by departure time (Partenze is Italian for Departure) and show the destination (Modena won't be the destination) and major intermediate stops, any delay, and train number, as well as the platform (Binario) number. You go down to that platform and find the car you are booked on - they will be in order, either going up or down depending on the previous routing of the train. Go in the door (up a couple of steps perhaps) of that car and find the assigned seat - they are in order. Just like boarding a plane really, from arrival to finding your seat...

Know what the stop before Modena is and prepare yourself to get off (know how long between the two stops too) because the train doesn't stop too long at intermediate stations. If you had to step up one or two steps into the train remember that when you get off (my mother didn't and fell).

By the way, the factory tour is only for registered Ferrari owners (hubby?) and I believe that the museum requires a reservation.

How will you get from the station to Ferrari-land?

There is a Ferrari Museum in Maranello, more focused on cars, and a Ferrari Museum in Modena that's more focused on Mr. Ferrari's life and cars. Both have positive reviews.

As to visiting the Ferrari factory I am afraid that Nigel is right, but you can visit Lamborghini's, Ducati Bikes' and Pagani's plants.

There is a tour at the Maranello Museum that is open to the general public. My father is a Ferrari fan, but not an owner and he took it. I know there was a bus tour through the complex and some other component (we were traveling with him, but didn't join that visit). I think there is also a bus between the Maranello Museum and the one in Modena; I believe that's how my father traveled to meet the rest of us in Modena (after a visit to that museum).

Be sure that the train is direct: the most from Rome to Modena with a connection in Bologna. I suppose you mean the train at 16:35, direct, but slow.
There are 2 Ferrari museums: one in Modena, few hundred meters from the train station, and one in Maranello, near the factory. The two museums (and train station) are connected via a shuttle: https://www.vivaraviaggi.it/happy_circle.php?happy_circle=6 .
The official Factory tour is not a tour inside the production lines, but of the factory area. Is done on an official shuttle and starts in front of the museum in Maranello. If you are travelling alone is nice because the guide on the bus explain you a lot of things about Enzo Ferrari life and factory history. You visit even the racetrack.

My husband went to the Ferrari Museum in Modena. It did require a timed entrance, but wasn’t busy the day he went, November 2nd. He enjoyed that it was both about Enzo Ferrari and that just enough cars were on display to not be overwhelmed.
