rome to civitavecchia

We will arrive at the airport and have a one night stay before boarding a cruise ship in Civitavecchia which is about 50 miles (?) from the airport. Any suggestions of where to stay that would be outside the main city and have easy transport to the cruise ship?

Why not staying inside the "main city" (?), but close to a railway station served by direct trains to Civitavecchia? Like Roma Trastevere station, for instance, where the FL1 trains from FCO stop, too.

Of course I am Assuming, you are arriving at Fiumicino (FCO) airport and not at Ciampino.

Depending on how early you need to be at cruise ship terminal, and how early you land it might be worth while to spend the day in Rome itself, enjoy some sites and eats. As suggested there are direct and easy trains from rome, so staying near one of those and hopping on a train would indeed be easy and maximize both time in Rome as well as ease of transport.

You could always taxi/car service to Civitavecchia and stay there if flying in late/departing early so that you’re in town and it’s easiest and shortest.

It all depends on how much time and what your priority is. (Close to ship vs sites/fun first day)

I too suggest staying close to the train station.

The trains go hourly during the week and every two hours on weekends. It's maybe a 45 minute ride out to Civitavecchia..

All great suggestions. Thank you. I will look to stay in Rome and travel to the ship in the morning.
