Has anyone flown with Easyjet to Bari or Myair to Brindisi?
All or any survival tips for discount airlines would be appreciated.
Has anyone driven and how was it?
Any tips on reasonable car rentals would be useful.
John, not quite answering the question...I had a pleasant train trip from Rome to Foggia and collected the rental car from there. It was about 3 minutes walk from the station to the rental agency.
John, we flew on Air One, a Lufthansa sub. from Brindidsi to Rome. Great flight...great price. I would not be afraid of any of the lo-cost airlines. Read the baggage restrictions.
Brindisi is a beautiful new airport that is very small.
We rented from AutoEurope in Rome and took the beautiful 4 hour drive to the Puglia area. When we were done with our vaca we returned the car at a lockbox at the airport on a Sunday morning, and had no problems.
We had no problems driving in Puglia...except into and out of Lecce. Don't attempt it without a GPS!
That trip made me go out and buy my own GPS. We used our TOM TOM 920 last winter in Germany and Portugal, and love it!
We drive from Rome to our vacation home between Naples and Bari quite frequently - it is a very easy drive....good, well-marked roads, etc. It takes us about 3 1/2 hours though - would be at least 4 1/2 or 5 to Bari though I would think, so a plane would be good if you are in a hurry. As for car rentals - I have usually found the best prices at the Rome airport...I compiled a list of the ones I have found the best prices on a page on my blog: http://southernitaly.wordpress.com/getting-there/ (scroll down to the bottom) -Nicole
