Rome to Assisi to Florence in 1 day

We want to stop in Assisi on our way to Florence (from Rome) and spend a little time sight-seeing in Assisi. We will have all our luggage with us and have reservations for the same night in Florence. Is this a doable adventure? How long is the train from Assisi to Florence?

You're looking at two 2 1/2 hour train rides in the same day (Rome > Assisi, Assisi > Florence). Makes for a long day. Why not slow your pace a bit and overnight in Assisi?

Stay just one night in Assisi. It is a beautiful, charming village that can really be enjoyed by taking the local bus to the top of the town and then walking the lovely, winding, cobblestone streets back down to the Basilica San Francesco. It's view of the valley below is breathtaking by day and twinkling by night. It is worth and it deserves an overnight. Any chance you can change your reservations in Florence? If not, it is certainly doable in a day - but it will be a long day. And you'll need to scout out a place to store your luggage while in Assisi.

Wow, eat a good breakfast (not just cappuccino & Cornetto :) before embarking on that journey!

I agree, slow down, stay either in Assisi or Perugia. Get up the next day and take the train to Florence and make a stop in Cortona for lunch. Enjoy!
