Rome To Anzio-WW II site

I understand I can take a train from Rome to Anzio-is that where I would get off or is there another town better? I am looking to see the area where my dad was at in WWII. If someone has been there, can you tell me what there is to see. Thanks!

Ciao Cindy, You can take the train to the cemetery - we've been there a few times but we always drive. The cemetery is actually closer to Nettuno and that's where you will head on the train. From the train station, you can get a taxi for the last mile or so. It's a beautiful cemetery, albeit a little isolated north of the city. This link should give you all the info you need: http://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries/cemeteries/sr.php (SICILY-ROME AMERICAN CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL)

The cemetery is very moving and worth a trip. My wife's mother and fateher both were at Anzio. Also nice to see how many Italians are there

Thank you! That is good to know. We only have maybe a half of day, so would that be enough?

Yes, you can visit the cemetery from Rome in half a day. The grounds are beautiful, but not extensive.
