Rome to Amsterdam

Please tell me the easiest way to get from Rome to Amsterdam on a budget? Are there budget airlines out of Rome’s smaller airport? I saw Ryan’s Air from FCO but it doesn’t fly into Amsterdam…but it flys into a city an hour away. Do you know why? Are there others that fly into Amsterdam one way? Thanks!

Bargain airlines use secondary airports because the landing fees (paid by the airline) are lower than at the main airport. That's how they offer you a lower priced ticket. But as you are suggesting, it's not always a "good deal." It is very far from Rome to Amsterdam. You might consider planning a less expensive itinerary, say to a country closer to Rome, or just another part of Italy.

Thank you for your response! My son & I were in Amsterdam 12 yrs ago & we just wanted to go back for a few days after our trans Atlantic cruise to Civitavecchia. We’re staying 4 nights in Rome. Is Ryan Air the only budget friendly airline? I’ve been on them before & it cost so much extra for my bags. They’re definitely not my favorite way to fly.
Thanks!

Use Google Flights to see your options

KLM and ITA both fly direct from FCO to AMS about 2.5 hr flight

Vueling, EasyJet fly FCO to AMS with at least 1 stop, long layovers making flight time 10-11 hours.

This is the time to throw a bit of money at transportation if seeing Amsterdam is what you really want to do

EasyJet is a great discount airline. Look at their schedule for Amsterdam.
