Rome to airport -taxi, shuttle bus, or ??

Yes I know likely asked numerous times. Taxi from most Rome hotels run about 60 euros, shuttle bus is 7. Understand the convince of a cab, if plenty of time, is there a reason to not to take the shuttle? Thank you.

Probably the biggest reason I could see for cab over bus would be if you're not walking distance from where the bus picks up/drops off. That would mean 2 stages of transport to get to/from the airport. Another reason might be if your flight schedule has you needing to be at the airport earlier than the shuttles run.

From a personal standpoint, I tend to experience car sickness in the backseat of a vehicle but not so much on a coach-type bus so there's that.

We have taken the airport express coaches both in Rome and Milan when staying reasonable walking distances from the stations and thought they were perfectly fine; air conditioned and comfortable.

The cab fee to accommodations "inside the walls" in Rome is 50 euro. There may be a small additional fee for extra luggage.

Pickpockets:

As most shuttle buses (not your average city bus) are virtually the same as touring coaches, pickpocketing really isn't a factor. Oh, and no additional fees for extra luggage, and crowding isn't a factor either.

There's a pix of a one of the bus types on the SIT site:

If you are walking distance from the Termini station it would work. But if you are far from the station and you need a cab to get there, then it depends on how many people are traveling together. 3 people probably save with a taxi (€50 flats fare imposed by the city).

If getting to Termini is not much of an issue (can get there easily via subway), I would recommend taking the Leonardo Express to the airport. The walk from the train to the terminal was a bit of a hike especially since it seems United is the farthest away, but for the ease and convenience it was totally worth it.

Since we stay in the Trastevere, we always take the tram to the Trastevere Station and the train out to the airport. The same train, the FL1 stops at a number of stations which might work depending on where you are staying, tickets run 7 or 8 euro. Of course if you are near Termini, the Leonardo Express goes directly to the airport, for ~14 euro.
