Rome / Tivoli / Ostia in a day?

My wife and I will be finishing our first RS Venice/Florence/Rome tour on Wednesday March 12th. From what I understand this is just a goodbye breakfast before we go off on our own that morning. Our return home flight isn't until Friday morning the 14th which gives us two days around Rome if you count Wednesday. We will already have four full days in Rome before taking a train joining the tour in Venice. So with that time and the couple of days in Rome with the RS tour we will have had a good look at Rome and we could fit in somewhere other then a large city which is what this vacation will have a lot of.
I have a room reserved for two nights in Ostia thinking it is by the airport and much cheaper then the hotel we are going to stay in Rome. Thinking we can check out of our room in Rome and do any last minute things in or around Rome. Then we check in that afternoon in Ostia by the beach. The next day we're going to tour Ostia Antica site.
Now I am thinking of a quick day trip to Tivoli then going to Ostia after that. Our RS tour hotel is close to terminal station. Do you know if we can store our backpacks at the station when we go to Tivoli so we don't have to take them with us?
We were thinking we can leave them at the hotel we are checking out of but that would mean a trip back there when we return to Rome before heading to Ostia.
Will Tivoli be worth the trip going to in two weeks? Will the gardens and fountains be running?
Any good suggestions what to see or eat in Tivoli in one afternoon?
THANKS

Ostia Antica and Tivoli the same day looks quite challenging.

Ostia to Tivoli is ~2 hours by public transit. A car service/taxi likely not less than 90 minutes. Both are 'one way' times

What time is your flight on the 14th? It might be a better use of time to not change hotels, if the tour hotel has a room available

I've never been to Ostia, but I wonder if you might need two local busses to get to FCO, depending on the location of your hotel. Cheap, but time consuming and time-uncertain.

I can't tell if you are taking the train or the bus to Tivoli. I do see that you're going to Villa D'Este, and not to Hadrian's Villa, which is fine.

Check up on this, many things are approximate in Italy: "Villa d'Este will reopen on 18th March 2025 for the new season."

We are thinking of just visiting Tivoli for the day. I saw a you tube where you can catch the 9:03 train and get there by 10 am. Then we can visit the town will return to Rome in the afternoon and just continue on to Ostia for two nights checking in sometime in the early evening. Then we have all of Thursday in Ostia.
We leave Italy Friday morning.
But if Villa d èste is not opening until March 18th it might not be worth going. I'm looking at going on March 12th.
