Rome Tiburtina to FCO - bus and/or train help

Will be arriving at Tiburtina by train and need to get to FCO that leaves less than 4-1/2 hours later. There is a train option, but they don't run as often as I thought they would (if I'm reading things right), and it only leaves 2 hours at FCO for a flight to Spain on a busy travel day. I think bus may be a better option, but I'm having trouble finding and deciphering schedules. Is it easy to find the bus locations at Tiburtina and are there competing lines/companies?

Here's a link to trenitalia website. Just enter date and time, from Roma Tiburtina, to Fiumicino Aeroporto. It will show you all trains for the 45 minute trip. You shouldn't have a problem making your flight.

Thanks for the answers. The sites will not let me buy tickets for trains that leave around 11:30 - noon even though I can for all other times! Will see what happens at the station.

A lot of (maybe all of) the trains from Tiburtina to FCO are regionals that can't sell out, because there are no reserved seats. I imagine you can buy that ticket at another Italian rail station earlier in your trip. It's not a good idea to have to depend on staffed ticket counters in Italy when you're in a hurry. The voice of experience speaketh.

Don't bother trying to buy advance tickets for the FM1 Regionale train. It's just as easy to buy them in Italy, either at a Kiosk or a staffed ticket office. I normally use the Kiosks and buy tickets the day prior to travel so that I don't have to deal with that when I'm in a hurry and hauling luggage. This website provides all the details - https://www.rometoolkit.com/transport/rome_train.htm

If you're buying tickets the day prior to travel, be sure to pay particular attention to the date specified, as tickets are ONLY valid on the day printed on the ticket. Also, you MUST validate your tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

I'm a bit curious on why you're leaving from Tiburtina rather than Roma Termini?

Thanks all for the suggestions that speak from experience! I will plan to get tickets once we are in Italy - a few days earlier. We are leaving from Tiburtina rather than Termini as that is where our train from Chiusi arrives.

You can easily take the Metro from Tiburtina to Termini then the Leonardo Express to FCO. An option.

I've just made a fake search and all FL1 trains are regularly on sale on trenitalia.com , including those leaving around noon. Out of curiosity, what date and hour of travel are you using?

Keep in mind that you can purchase all Trenitalia tickets at any Trenitalia's station, at travel agencies showing the company's logo on the window and at many tobacconists.

Of course you could also keep it simple and buy like most italians younger than 40: install Trenitalia's app, purchase all the tickets you need and show them to the conductor using the phone display.
No need to punch your phone into the time-stamping machine: regionale tickets purchased on-line can be used only on the booked train and on any other regionale making the same route and departing within a set amount of time.

dario,

"Of course you could also keep it simple and buy like most italians younger than 40: install Trenitalia's app, purchase all the tickets you need and show them to the conductor using the phone display."

Unfortunately, it appears that the Trenitalia app is not available on the Canadian iTunes store for phones (it is available for iPads though). My only option for purchase on my iPhone is to use the Trainline app. I tend to purchase tickets on a desktop computer, so that I can have a hard copy as well.

I have another app called InfoTreni Pro but I've never used it to buy tickets. It does work well for checking schedules.

Thanks again. Darioalb, I'm looking for 2 June at 11:30 to noon approximately, but I feel good about the option to buy at a train station a few days before.

I'm looking for 2 June at 11:30

Now I get it: June 2 is a National holiday and Trenitalia seems to be running less commuters trains in the middle of the day.
