Rome Tiburtina to area of the Coliseum?

I'll be arriving from Milan at Rome's Tiburtina station in the early afternoon. My Rome lodging is at the monastery of San Gregorio Magno el Celio, which is between the Coliseum and Circus Maximus. There is no way I can do the Rome subway with my luggage, no matter how light I pack. Any good options to get from the station to San Gregorio besides a taxi? And if not, any general idea what the taxi should cost? Thanks

Sherry, First of all, I'm a bit curious on why you're arriving at Roma Tiburtina rather than Termini? There are numerous trains each day that travel directly to Termini, with travel times as short as 2H:59M. Unfortunately, the Metro IS probably the easiest and fastest way to the Colosseum, as both Tiburtina and Colosseo are on the "B" Metro line. You would only have to negotiate the stairs and escalators once at each end. The trip is only about six stops, so it's not a long trip. The only other option I can think of would be a Taxi. Is there any possibility you could arrive at Termini instead? Happy travels!

I suppose you could have a driver meet you at the station and then take you to the hotel. If not, then the only other options are a cab or the metro. If you take a cab it shouldn't cost more than 15 euros or so to get there. I'm just curious as to how much luggage you'll have. The metro is the best choice for you but if you have a ton of luggage it makes it difficult. How many bags will you have and how long will you be on vacation? Donna

Donna, thanks for the info. To answer your questions, I travel with one carry-on, pack minimally, and will be traveling for a little less than a month. However, I am not strong, and my recollections of the Rome subway are (1) lots of stairs, (2) lots of crowding, pushing, and some chaos while boarding cars, and (3) being crammed into cars during the trip. All this makes me very nervous about trying it with luggage. If my earlier experiences are no longer true, let me know. I would be exiting at the Circus Maximum stop. Also, it's good to know the taxi wouldn't be horrendously expensive.

Just took a taxi from Tiburtina to Campo dei Fiori and it was only 10 euros. I agree, 15 would be the max.
