Rome then 4 days on Amalfi Cooast

I'm flying in to Rome for 3 days then 4 days in Amalfi Coats and down to Sicily for 7 days. I could really use some advice on how to best spend my time in the Amalfi Coast. I want to see Pompeii and Capri and plan on staying in Positano as my base. Should I take a train early from Rome then go directly to Pompeii? I thought maybe I should then stay overnight in Naples and then on to Positano. I'm just not sure the the best way to utilize my time. I also want to see the coast. I'm packing a lot in. I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks

If you stay in Naples then you can also see the Archaeological museum with all the objects from Pompeii. I'd stay there at least a night either before or after Positano--after may make sense for your departure to Sicily.

We plan on going to Italy next year. We are staying two nights in Naples. The first night we plan on walking to the Naples Archaeological Museum from the hotel. The next day we will visit Pompeii and Herculaneum via a quick train ride. Then we are able to walk from our hotel to the ferry to visit Capri. After visiting Capri, you could take the ferry to Positano as your base town for your Amalfi Coast visit.
