Rome Termini to Fiumicino

I know this has been asked a million times.....But want to be able to forward clear response to my friends (thier first trip to Europe)

We have friends visiting us and we will spend their last three nights in Rome. Staying not far from Termini.
Their flight on Lufthansa is at 10:10 am to Frankfurt. Should they take the 6:35 or 7:05 Leonardo Express? Does train arrive at the terminal they will fly out of, or will they need to get to the right terminal?

Confirm we can buy tickets as we arrive in Rome a few days in advance.

Thanks

It's an inter-EU flight, so it takes less time to check in and get to the gate. The 7:05am Leonardo Express train arrives at the airport 2.5 hours before the 10:10am flight, which would be more than enough time. They could probably comfortably take the 7:35am Leonardo Express. The FCO train station is at Terminal 3 but there's an elevated enclosed walkway to their terminal. It takes maybe 10 minutes. The flight is probably from Terminal 1, but the big electronic signboard just before the walkway will say for sure. Leonardo Express tickets can be purchased in advance with no problems. Just be sure they're for the correct travel date. The tickets will be good for any Leonardo Express train that day, which is why they must be validated at the train station on the travel day before boarding the train.

It has been a couple of years so maybe someone with more recent experience will confirm or deny. There was a ticket booth on the platform for the Leonardo Express train selling tickets. Still had to be validated. It is open seating so the train never sells out.
