Rome: Taxi to airport

We are leaving for FCO from Trastevere for a morning flight to DC. We are staying in an apartment with a taxi stand a couple of blocks away. Does anybody think we should call for a taxi or just show up at the taxi stand? Thank you.

If by morning you mean you need to leave the apartment before 7:00 AM, then I would definitely arrange a taxi or other shuttle service to pick you up. Rome has a controlled flat rate from central Rome to the airport, if it is early morning, I believe they can tack on an additional fee.

A few years ago we had a very early flight from rome (6am) to amsterdam to pacific northwest. The hotel very kindly arranged for pickup at 3am. We were very glad that we had booked the taxi ahead of time. Very little traffic, but the airport was surprisingly busy at that time in the morning, so we were happy that we had the extra time. I believe the cost was 40 euros, but this was a few years ago, so it may be more expensive. Unless the situation has changed however there will be nothing open before 6am - then one coffee shop opened by our departing gate. The lineup was so long, we were happy that we had grabbed a coffee at the hotel before we left. (Handy to bring instant coffee with you) for such an occasion.

Rome taxi to airport is a flat rate of 48 euro. You can tip the driver a couple of euro.. It's easy to get taxis in Rome. There's always a cab or two at the taxi stands.

If you need to leave Very early, like before 7AM, I'd arrange taxi in advance. After 7AM, I'd go to the taxi stand.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. We headed to the taxi stand about 0645 (after the Giants won!). There were 3 taxis. Quick trip to FCO and we are checked on and waiting to come home. Thanks again.
