Rome Taxi for Family with 5 Kids

I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to get my family with five kids from Rome's historic center to a place outside the reach (it appears) of the metro. I've looked at bus routes and it seems we'd have to take three different buses which is too much of a chore with all the kids. I'm fine paying for a taxi/van, I'm just unsure if I can just walk up to ta taxi stand and get a lift for our large crew or if I need to schedule something in advance. Any suggestions?

We're staying near the Piazza Navona and destination is in Zona IV Casal Boccone.

Thanks.

From what I know the taxis are regulated--I think depending on zone--at 48 Euro fixed. With 5 kids, I don't know if two taxis would cover it. I would set something up in advance for a van that holds 8 and luggage, and I'd check with the hotel first to see what they quote you.

I'm sure some helpful soul on the board will have some answers here.

Just a day trip with no luggage other than personal items or a transfer with luggage? Round trip or one way?

It'll be round trip, no luggage other than a day-pack or two. Head out in the morning, return in the late afternoon most likely.

I know you can get a cab for 5 by calling, not sure about for 7. We used both of these companies a lot when we lived there for transport around town. I would call Radio Taxi or Pronto Taxi once you are in Rome and ask. You can get an English speaking dispatcher, no problem. The biggest problem may be arranging return transportation. I would want to have that set in advance.

For personal service, contact Rome Cabs and pre-reserve before you travel. They are very good and dependable in my experience.

I don’t think you can count on a taxi stand having a large enough taxi. Maybe two taxis, but that would be expensive plus getting them on the return could also be iffy.

I’d suggest contacting a service like Rome Cabs to pre-schedule both ways. Look for the many companies that shuttle people to/from the airport or cruise port. Most of them will also offer more general shuttle - like you need.

Since you asked for the best way, consider a private car service. We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It is a private car service and not a cab company despite the name. Not sure what they would charge, but it might be only a little more than busses for five people. We have used them many times have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We usually send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. You do (or did) have to pay cash (Euros) at the end of the journey but not in advance. Seems to me that they now take credit cards, but since we always pay with cash I'm not sure about that.

For anyone following this, RomeCabs just quoted me €90 each way. Not sure where that lies compared to other services just yet, but it was a good bit more than I expected.

If you have 7 people - 5 kids + 2 adult. That is really a lot of people. I think the average cab is limited to 4 people. You will need two local cabs. You would have problems in New York City finding a cab for that size a group. That is part of the problem -- whatever you save by staying in an outlying area can be chewed up by transportation costs and inconveniences.

If Rome cab is quoting 90 Euro, you must be going a considerable distance. Sounds like close to an hour ride.

Looks like the distance is only 7.4 miles. By taxi, uber and driving. Check with Uber Black.

If it is only seven miles, then something is way off with the 90Euro quote each way. I would ask them for an explanation since Roma Cab is a very good company. That is quote I would expect for 30, 40 miles or a bit more.
