Are there places in Rome where street musicians often play? People often play for tips near the Uffizi in Florence, and we have often enjoyed the music as well as the ambiance there.
Recently returned from Italy and our apt in Rome was near Piazza Pasquino which is very close to Piazza Navonna. Had dinner several nights in P. Pasquino and there were street musicians that rotate around the restaurants in that area.
A few years ago we enjoyed the street musicians in the evening at Piazza Navona. Lots of activity there at night.
At night, musicians take turns outside of the Pantheon. And the ones I have seen are amazingly talented. In my opinion, it is worth it to spend the extra money to eat at one of those restaurants to be able to sit there and listen for awhile.
Pretty much any major piazza in Rome will have street musicians and other buskers. The same is true for any major city in Italy.
Campo di Fiori, not far from Piazza Navona
Somewhere on the Borgo Santo Spirito -- or on one of those side streets that connects it with the Via Della Conciliazione -- there is a gypsy kid who sings in accompaniment to an accordionist (or violinist, can't remember exactly) in a unique way. Great talent and very entertaining. Usually during the afternoon. But yeah -- just walk around the city and you'll encounter plenty of musicians; many mediocre, but some truly outstanding. Come to think of it, I have often heard good musicians on the bridge that goes directly to Castel Sant'Angelo.
