Rome: Soccer/Calcio- Tickets & Seating

Our family is considering going to a soccer game, Roma vs Napoli on April 24th. Any suggestions regarding when to purchase the tickets and where to sit?

Michael S's advice is incomplete and potentially costly. Firstly, avoid viagogo at all costs as you will pay a very high premium above the official ticket price. Secondly, you cannot buy tickets at the AS Roma website. It redirects you to the official box office, listicket. Having purchased tickets to a number of games previously I would make the following suggestions/comments:

  1. You MUST register with listicket and be logged in with your listicket user name and password at the time you wish to buy the tickets. Register well in advance and do a dummy purchase for a game (up to the point immediately before you need to enter payment details!) so you get the feel for how it works.
  2. Keep an eye on the listicket website so you know when seats will go on sale for the game. The Studio Olimpico in Rome rarely sells out but you will get better tickets by buying as soon as general sales open. The Napoli game WILL be popular!
  3. In terms of seating avoid the curva (stadium ends) unless you want to be in with the ultras with their flares etc. The Tribunal Tevere and Tribunal Monte Mario are more expensive but calmer options. When you go in to buy tickets for the game you can click on a little icon saying Scelta Posto with a finger pointing. This allows you to click on stadium sections and then on the individual seats you want. There are little camera icons on the diagram to show the view from different stadium areas. For most games their are discounts for u14 and at some games women (Donna) are cheaper than men (go figure).
  4. Be prepared for a heavy police presence around the stadium. Security will include having to show your ticket (print at home when you purchase your seats) AND your passport. You will show you passport and ticket at the outer fence and then your ticket again at the inner gate for your section, and then again to staff posted at your section.
  5. Food options are very limited inside the stadium but there are many food stalls before entering the first outer gates where you show tickets and passports.
  6. The stadium is very poorly served by public transport and is too far from central Rome to walk. My suggestion would be to get a taxi there and then try for a taxi home (I have found that it can take a while though!) I have also caught the bus there and there is a tram service to just over the river from the stadium. For transport information go to www.stadiumguide.com and look at their section on Stadio Olimpico.

If you have any other questions just let me know.

I forgot to say that your tickets will have your names and passport numbers on them (you enter this info when purchasing) so everyone attending, including kids, will have their ticket cross checked with their passport.

premium above the official ticket price.

Not necessarily. It depends on how much interest there is in the game and how desperate the seller is to unload their tickets. Even if ticket prices are higher it can often be easier to deal with Viagogo as its site is more user friendly and geared to overseas customers.

Secondly, you cannot buy tickets at the AS Roma website. It redirects
you to the official box office, listicket.

Of course the official site redirects you to a Ticketmaster type site. Most all professional sporting teams be it in the US or Europe outsource their ticketing to outside companies. Going direct to the teams website allows one to to see listings for just the team the buyer is interested in....... in this case Roma.

I highly appreciate the thoroughness of acquiring tickets and the updates. It was very helpful. Thank you.

Michael, I have bought tickets for numerous English and European games and NEVER has viagogo been price competitive with buying from the official site. Granted, the OP might get lucky but I doubt it given the popularity of these two teams.

The Roma website also does not show all games as the Napoli game is on sale at Listicket but does not show on the Roma website. Given the limited number of tickets remaining, by simply telling him to look at the AS Roma site he could well have missed out on acquiring tickets at the official sales agent, Listicket.

Check again at the end of the season with two teams who have nothing to play for...you'll see lots of deals. Italian fans can be especially fickle about under performing teams. In any event, sometimes it's worth it to pay more for the convenience.

Hopefully, nothing will happen to us if we cannot use the tickets. It seems that the tickets once purchased on line cannot be resold. Is this true?

Thank you.

I have never tried to resell tickets but the issue will be that they will have your name and passport number on them so I cannot see it being simple. Are you worried about not getting to the game for some reason?

For acquiring tickets on the web site does anyone know the difference between these categories?

Intero 1 Web
Rid Over 65 web 1
Rid under 14 web 1

I do not know if this has to do with age or something else.

Thank you.

You are right. Intero is the normal adult price. The other prices are for those 65 and up or under 14 (child price).

Rid is abbreviated for reduction (or reduced) in Italian.

Are you sure you want to take your family to one of the matches with high probability of clashes between rival fans?

"Rid" is abbreviation of "Ridotto" (Reduced price) for seniors and children.
There are usually violent clashes between Rome and Napoli hooligans. These clashes are nearly always away from the stadium, in the streets nearby, since the stadium itself has heavy security and opposite fans are separated. Be careful on the way to/from the stadium. Don't wear colors or banners or shirts/hats of either teams.

For people considering purchasing tickets from Listicket.com, some games can only be purchased with a TDA AS Roma Card. TDA stands for Tessera del Tifosa. This is an identity card issued by the Italian Ministry of Interior for authorities to check criminal records of individuals attending football matches. Also it seems as a way for fans to collecting points. Below is a Wikipedia link which gives more details.
