Rome-sights

3 days in Rome arriving early Friday and leaving by train on Monday afternoon for Venice. I booked a Vatican tour for Saturday morning and I booked 3 days with an on-off bus tour. I am interested in the Pierreci Colosseum tour with underground. (It doesn't appear my dates in Sept. are available yet) Having transportation with the on-off bus, would the Roma pass be a recommended option? Is the Roma pass taken into consideration when purchasing the Pierreci tour? And what two consecutive days would you recommend for the Colosseum, Forun etc. tours since the Vatican tour is in the middle of our trip? Any advice for first time travelers to Italy is appreciated.

1. Roma pass - not for you, since you don't have 2 consecutive days to use it, you probably won't get enough use out of the transportation piece and the tour probably allows you to skip the line. You will be paying at least as much, maybe more than otherwise, and not getting any more. 2. HOHO bus tour - if you can, you should consider cancelling it. They usually aren't a good way to get from place to place. A one-time ride can be good to get an overview, but you could well be stuck in traffic a lot too. You can get a transportation pass, but you probably won't even use that very much. 3. Download the RS Italy audio tours (don't forget to print out the maps). They aren't long - usually about 45 minutes - and both interesting and enjoyable. There's one for the forum, another for St. Peter's, for the Colosseum, and more - Venice too.

I would cancel the HO/HO bus is you can. They're not that good and don't get you close to most of the sites. For the romapass, unless you're going to see three or more sites covered by the pass then it won't save you any money. If you plan on visiting the colosseum and two other sites you may want to consider it. For the colosseum underground, pierreci was the official site. Now it's: http://www.coopculture.it/en/ticket.cfm?office=Colosseo&id=2 If you're going to use the romapass for entry you'll need to call to book the underground tour. There is no way to do this online. If you're not going to use the romapass just click on the "buy single" option and follow the prompts. The dates for September have not been released yet so just keep checking. Since your Vatican visit falls right in the middle you can either visit the colosseum on Friday and the forum on Saturday afternoon or you can visit the Colosseum on Saturday and the forum on Sunday. Either will work. Donna
