Rome's Birthday on 4/21/18 - Crowds, Parades & Fireworks?

Trying to plan our trip to Italy and wondering whether I should avoid Rome on 4/21.

According to RS Guidebook, there will be Parades and Fireworks. Guessing crowds as well.

This is our first trip to Rome but trying to plan visits to other areas like Orvieto, Pompeii, Siena, Lucca.

My husband and I would like to see the museums, art and experience the culture but are not great fans of crowds.

Any recommendations regarding this event.. should we avoid Rome on this day?

There are always crowds in Rome. I go several times a year and haven't experienced it where I didn't think that it was crowded. Certainly more crowded in July than other months but still large crowds.

Why avoid a birthday party?

Seriously, you can avoid most of the crowds by avoiding the specific venues where events are taking place, mostly large, outdoor public spaces.

If you want to avoid crowds, it may be a good day to visit Ostia Antica. Has a museum as well as interesting grounds to explore of the ancient port city
