Hi! In the TV episode Italy: Rome's Back Street Riches, Steve mentions a hotel at about 9 mins or 9:30 mins into the segment. I couldn't catch the name of the family run hotel, but would like to research if this would be a lodging option for us in the near future. Do you know the name of this hotel in Rome? Thank you!
If some one has good ears , it is at the 9 min mark in this video https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/video/tv-show/rome-back-street-riches
EDIT-- once I knew to be listening for "Oceania", that is what it sounds like.
Hotel Oceania. Google it and see if you agree. Once on their site, click on "about us".
Yes, Hotel Oceania. It was 3 minutes from our hotel in the Termini. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjU-dOTvIT9AhVOAzQIHQWNBYQQFnoECBMQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hoteloceania.it%2F&usg=AOvVaw3YtwjcMc9sPI0aYcV_M2xR
Thank you! I SO appreciate everyone's help! Such a helpful community! Janis...this is close to the train station? Greetings from WA State, too :-)
We stayed at Hotel Oceania (IIRC) for the Rome part of our RS Venice-Flor-Rome tour. About 8 - 10ish blocks from the Termini Train Station.
I liked it. But IIRC it had some steps up from the street and to the elevator. Not a flight of stairs but some for people with mobility issues. We walked from there down to the Pantheon and the Trevi fountain area. A longish walk but not bad. And it was within walking distance to one of Rome's main Museums I wanted to see.
Yes, you can see a few steps from the street to the front door and see just inside with a few more steps to reach the first floor. This is the front entrance of Hotel Oceania in Google Maps:
If you want another option, other RS tours stay at Hotel Smeraldo
There are at least 2 other RS tour hotels on the same street. I stayed at Hotel Aberdeen (badly needs a reno) in October and Hotel Nardizzi Americana on a Best of Europe tour a number of years ago. In fact the Nardizzi is in the same building as the Oceania.
I had a really good meal at the Asian restaurant just a few doors down, Zonwa Roma. We had 3 tour members with Asian heritage and they all said they thought it was very good. In fact, one guy ate there twice, lol.
I agree with Robert about things being within walking distance. I walked to the Colosseum area and also to the Borghese Gallery from the Aberdeen.
Just for future reference, all of Ricks videos also have a script you can read. It is on the same webpage, just a little further down from the video. It clearly states Hotel Oceania.
As mentioned up thread, yes walking distance from Termini Station. We enjoyed staying at Hotel Residenza Cellini a couple times. It was a 4 min. walk to Roma Termini. It was also convenient to major sights. For a change we may stay at Hotel Smeraldo next time? Greetings back from the Evergreen State! :)
