We will be one night in Rome on our way home from a third trip to Italy, staying near Borghese. Any recommendations for bars or restaurants with a beautiful evening view of the city? Would reservations be required in early October? Thank you!

Just learned of this one myself, Terrazza Boromini. I did make a reservation on the advice of the friend that recommended it. Note you can make a res online with Quandoo.

No lie, these pictures show exactly what you see on the Terrace of the hotel Raphael http://www.raphaelhotel.com/raphel-hotel-restaurant-in-rome.htm It is, however, not close to the Borghese, rather very close to the Piazza Navona. (Largo Febo, 2, 00186 Roma). The views are stunning, the staff is lovely and the food, should you elect to eat rather than simply have a drink, is very good.

There's a rooftop bar on top of the Hotel Minerva near the Pantheon. I didn't get a chance to go there but I had a good view of it from the rooftop apt airbnb I was staying in. It looked really nice. "Drinks at the Minerva" was on my to-do list but after climbing 6 flights of stairs to get up to the apt, my to-do item became "Gaze at other people having drinks at the Minerva..." (laughing... crying..... one more reason to return to Rome!) Have one for me!
