Has anyone traveled with a small group and have advice on whether to rent an apartment, hotel, B&B or stay at a convent. I am going to Rome for 3 nights in June, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to stay with my family in Rome. Thanks for your help! Lindsay
Hi Lindsay, I normally travel with 4 to 6 people. I have found that an apartment works much better for us. Acess to a kitchen, washer/dryer, living room are all advantages for us. We will be traveling to Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome in 2012 and plan to rent apartments in each city. Having a washer/dryer helps us pack lighter, a kitchen allows us to venture to the open market and cook some meals in, and the living room provides a place for us to gather in the evenings to share the days adventures. I shy away from convents and B&B's because they have rules, i.e. curfew at 10:00 or 11:00 (what happens if we want to stay out until midnight???), at some B&B's you have to leave during the day (what happens if someone isn't feeling well and wants to rest at the room???) and all I get with a hotel is a room and usually for more than the apartment cost. As I travel with friends, we divide the cost of the apartment by the number of people. It works well for us. If you would like to research convents a good website is www.santasusanna.org. You will find a list of convents in Rome. Whatever you decide enjoy your stay and your family. It will be a special time. Rainie
Whether two or six, an apartment can be a great convenience and money saver. Try http://www.palazzo-olivia.it/. Centrally located, very well run and convenient.
