Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has had a tour of the Coliseum that was aimed at children? Any tour companies you have liked that you would recommend? We have looked at Context and may contact them, although they look a bit pricey. Thanks for any input.
We are going to Rome in June and have booked an Ancient Rome tour with Francesca Caruso, aguide Rick recommends in his book. It will be just the 6 of us and she is very reasonable. We'll post what we thought of her when we return!
Alot of people on this board have used Angel Tours. We are going to use Angel Tours for the Coliseum and we plan on doing the night time tour the 1st night we get there from Venice just so we can get a llok around and get our bearings.
We took an Ancient Rome (Colosseum, forum and palatine hill) tour last summer with Context. We chose the private tour so it was just our family. Our kids were 12 and 14 at the time. The tour was great; we all agreed a highlight of the whole trip. Context asks that you tell them something about the group, so they are trying to tailor the tour to you. We had a wonderful guide (a mom herself) who made the tour interesting for both kids and parents! The tour was scheduled for four hours, which honestly was a long time especially considering that it was extremely hot the day we did it. I agree they are expensive-this was a splurge for us but I think money well spent.
Zandy,
Thanks, I tried Francesa already and she is booked for the day we want.
I'll look into the other two companies that have been mentioned.
Thanks!
How much???
It would be nice to know what the costs are.
It will help me plan for our trip.
David,
Check the websites, but Context I think was about 350 euros for a group of 6 (you can also pay individually to join an existing tour; not sure of the price). Angel tours is 25 euros per adult and kids are free.

Most on this board like Angel Tours or do the sites themselves. I'm going in May and i'm a 1st time visitor to Rome and I want to see things that I have no clue about so I am going with tour groups for a few things. I was going to use Angel Tours but I went to tripadvisor and found alot of different tour companies and you can go there a read them over there. You can find bad on every company or place to stay if you look and read long enough. From what people have told me and going on past reviews i'm going to use "through eternity" tours.
Im going to ask the guy I rented the Apt from if he knows a student or other local to give us a tour.
For this tour, I used Rome Walks. The only other company I used was Through Eternity (for the Vatican tour). Based off my experience with only these two companies (both of whom I was really pleased with), I would venture that Rome Walks was more appropriate for children. This assertion is made off the fact that the tour was more light hearted - humorous. The guide interjected a few funny random bits of information about Rome that I think kids would find enjoyable. However, my conclusion is undoubtedly confounded by the fact that my Through Eternity experience was of a more religious.. and perhaps therefore more serious setting. I would vouch for both!
We tried to hire Francesca Carusco, but because she was booked she referred us to Federica D'Orazio. Federica is very reasonable (150 euros for 3 hrs - just like Francesa). We have emailed several times and so far, she seems great. Plus she has written a book about Rome. Her contact info is Federica D'Orazio [email protected]
For some reason the email dropped from my reply:
Federica D'Orazio's email address is [email protected]
