In October two of us will be arriving at Fiumicino late at night (10 PM)after very long hours of travel. We're not planning on seeing Rome this time - been there, done that. The next morning we'll be leaving by train for Orvieto, Siena and onward. Given the hour of our arrival, would it be best to reserve a hotel at the airport and head to the Termini station in the morning or should we take a late night trip into town and stay by the station that night. Recommendations for one night overnight accomodations would be appreciated. We're just looking for a clean, no hassle room for a quality night's sleep to start our trip.
I think it would be simpler and probably cheap to stay near Termini. For that purpose we use the Hotel Contilia. Two blocks from the side door. Not sure when the last train but think it is around midnight.
I agree that staying near Termini would be the best option. The last Leonardo Express train departs Fiumicino at 11:36p, plenty of time if your flight in on schedule. If you stay near Termini you will be able to relax and get a good night sleep knowing that you are near the station.
