Went to Rome with my son in 2006 and didn't book anything in advance. Must have lucked into good walk-up tours of the Roman Forum and St. Peter's / Vatican Museum (skipped the line), and walked right into the Colloseum and Borghese. Now I'm going with my wife and am trying to figure out if we should pre-buy tickets to those venues or hope for another good walk-up tour. Anyone else have similar experiences, or should I buy in advance?
What month is your trip?
Unless it's on the off-season, I would not count on availability in quality walk-up tours (which tours?) or line skipping at the last minute. If it's this summer or fall, you definitely need to pre-book tickets, and you still won't avoid security queues. Pre-reservations for the Borghese are mandatory at ALL times on the year although you might get lucky with same-day openings in the winter.
Do you have the websites for booking? If not, we can help you with that.
We plan to be in Rome the last 4 days of September, so it sounds like pre-booking is the way to go. Thanks.
Yep, I'd pre-book for the Colosseum (Forum and Palatine are included on the same entry ticket), the Vatican museums and the Borghese.
