Anyone have experience renting a driving a car?
We've rented cars in Italy, and driven through many parts of it. I assume this must be after disembarkation after the cruise. The est. drive time is 3 1/2 hrs (I think that's optimistic). Personally, I'd rather take the train.
Do a search on this forum or a google search for parking in Sorrento. Unless your hotel has a parking lot, you will need to use a parking garage. I copied a link to one thread but for some reason I can paste it.
There are many private companies that provide transportation or you can take the train. My days of driving in tourist areas of Italy are over.
I took the train last year. Check out the rome2rio app for options and then book through the company web site if you choose not to drive.
The train is easier than it looks. Also check out the man in seat61 for all info for train travel.
This is one area of italy where driving is recommended. Fixed taxi fare to Napoli Centrale is €13, then you can take one of the local trains downstairs:

Sunshiner, looks like there was a lot of good advice offered in your previous post. Could you be more specific about driving/rental questions which weren't answered in that thread?

It's a pretty straightforward drive from the port. You'll skirt both Rome and Naples using the A1/E45 then taking the turn by Torre Annuziata/ Pompeii exit to the SS145.
We've driven this several times and it will definitely take more than 3 1/2 hours. Tolls will be around 20 €.
If you've never driven in Italy, be sure you read up on their rules of the road. You'll need an IDP which is a translation of you're home license. Available at AAA/CAA.
Be sure you check carefully for ZTL zones parking can be a headache and expensive in Sorrento and along the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento does have several rental car companies where you could drop the car.

Thinking you meant to say NOT recommended?
