I highly recommend Gaetano Manfredi's tour services! I found Gaetano recommended in the Rick Steve's update and booked the tour with him via email. He was very responsive and quick to answer questions as we planned our excursion.
We did a custom day trip from Rome, which included door-to-door hotel pick-up in Rome in a Mercedes van with an English speaking driver (Leonardo was fantastic! He pointed out sights along the drive and was an excellent driver). Gaetano met us at the entrance to Pompeii with our tickets already in hand. He started with an informative overview of Pompeii before we entered the site. He was clearly highly respected by his peers, who allowed him (when he asked them) to move us to the front of the line for the baths. (There were just two of us and the other group was very large). Once inside, he quickly moved us away from the hordes and it felt like it was just the three of us. He painted a vivid picture of life in Pompeii and took us to the recently opened House of the Vetti (which was delightfully uncrowded!). After 2 1/2 hours at Pompeii, he brought us back to our driver, who took us to the Bay of Naples for lunch. We had our choice of restaurants along the bay and chose to have real Naples pizza! Our driver then took us to the Naples Archaeological Museum, where we were met by Teresa (I think) who showed us the highlights of the museum (the Pompeii mosaics!). Leonardo then drove us back to our hotel in Rome, ending our 12+ hour day! Gaetano arranged each part of the day for us and included all admission fees. We could not have had a better experience!
To respond to some comments I saw on other posts about Gaetano's tours: (1) I am a first time poster and not a bot; (2) I did not receive a discount or fee for posting this review; and (3) I did not include the price because it was a custom tour. The cost of the driver for 12+ hours alone was a substantial part of it, I'm sure. In any event, it was worth the cost in our opinion. This was our one trip to Pompeii; Gaetano was exceptionally knowledgeable and made everything about the day easy!
