ROME PIAZZAS

You people are great. In the first half of October…assuming OK weather…where do the most people gather at night? What is the level of nighttime activity at Campo di’ Fiori, Piazza Navona and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Which of the three are more “lively.” On youtube I see all kinds of fun going on—people hanging, street performers, musicians, artists and other vendors at all the piazzas day and night…but I assume that is in the summer…what about the fall? If you wanted to people watch at night in October which of the three would you go to…Navona, Camp di Fiori or Trastevere? Would love to hear musicians. Big time thanks.

All of the above and more. October in Rome is just as busy as the rest of the year. Piazza Navona is guaranteed to have lots of people hanging around until very late at night, but all others are not going to be empty either. Street performers can be anywhere in the historical center. Just imagine the mall near you the weekend before Christmas. That's Rome every night in practically all most important streets and piazzas in the historical center.

Campo dei Fiori is a hotbed of drunken American and British college students late at night. Fine enough at appertivo hour but you'll want to move on by 22:00 or so unless you enjoy that "scene."

Going to be staying near Piazza del Popolo in late September, and am hoping for a "lively" scene in the evenings as well (maybe not quite as "fun" as Laurel's comment about drunk American and Brits, haha). Just wondering elipost, have you not mentioned Piazza del Popolo because you mentioned enough to get your point across, or have you heard it is quiet at night (or other)? This will be my first trip to Italy, so I have no personal experience. But it would be great to be able to have a nightcap near our hotel after being out and about the city earlier in the evening. Any insight would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Piazza Rotondo (aka Piazza Pantheon) is another one that's hopping at night. If you're going to be there more than one night, you can check out several. (And three of these are close enough together you can check them all out the same night - Navona, Pantheon, CDF.)

For another resource, there are some really great webcams here: Webcams in Rome That way you can check out the action for yourself once you get closer to your travel date.

The high point of the passegiata is around apperitivo time, before school kids have to go home for dinner.
