I'm curious: Can one go into the clock towers in the Church of Trinita dei Monti at The Spanish Steps to photograph the obelisk from a higher angle? Also, can one go into the buildings around the Column of Marcus Aurelius and others to get better shots of the columns and obelisks?? Lasstly, is there a place to get a good shot of the Piazza Navona from above? I've got a great zoom lens, but I'm always looking for better and more interesting angles.
Hi Kelly. I wondered the same thing...particularly about Piazza Navona. There is a church in Piazza Navona (Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone) & there is an upper outdoor balcony that you can see. I saw people occasionally walking around on the balcony looking out onto the piazza but I couldn't figure out if it was open to the public or not. I had wanted to go up onto the balcony to take pictures of Piazza Navona from above but never did figure out how to get up there. When you're there, you might ask someone.
I would recommend taking the elevator up to the roof of the Victor Emmanuel monument. The views are nice & I got some nice photos that way.
One more photography suggestion...there's a restaurant in Campo de Fiori called Carbonara. Supposedly if you go upstairs in the restaurant, there's a window overlooking the entire Campo from which you can take a picture. Never made it to that vantage point but you might have a look & see what you think. I was also told that the food at Carbonara is good.
