Rome – Outdoor Dining in October

We are thinking of going to Rome for a few days in early or mid-October. I am immunocompromised so we do not eat indoors. Will there be a good selection of restaurants with outdoor seating at that time of year? We have no interest in fancy places, prefer to eat with the locals. Not sure where we will stay, probably somewhere that's centrally located.

We were there in early November, 2021, and there were plenty of outdoor dining options.

We also stayed in an apartment, so we could eat some breakfasts or leftovers there.

Outdoor dining will be available almost everywhere that time of year…it will still be very mild, even warm.

We ate outside in late November, 2022 when we were also being exceedingly careful. It was a bit chilly by then but we managed. October should be perfect.

I was in Rome in late-ish October 2023 and we predominantly ate outdoors.

Many of Rome's restaurants with outdoor seating use portable heaters when the weather is a little chilly. We were in Rome at the end of November in 2024 and enjoyed dining outside in the evening near a portable heater. During the day it was comforable in the sunshine. Enjoy.

We do know about the smokers outdoors, as we visit Paris annually. We choose having some smoke over catching a virus on vacation. Been there, it is terrible.

Yes, there are plenty of options. I was there last June. You can check out Osteria Barberini, Pane a Salame, Trattoria Da Enzo al 29 and Otello.
