Hi. We will be taking an IC train from Rome to Orvieto on Thursday May 8th. Reservations are optional on IC trains. Do people traveling 2nd class usually bother with seat reservations? We were planning on picking up our ticket the day before in Rome. We're not picky about where we sit, but wouldn't enjoy having to stand! Thanks for any advice.
No need for seat reservations for this short haul.
We did this last November, there were plenty of seats in 2nd class. May 8th is still early in the "tourist" season.
I've never paid for a seat reservation on a Regional Train. Just be there when it pulls up and then, as the Italians do, race for YOUR seats!
To Orvieto it's a 1 hour ride with trains almost hourly... On a non-holiday Thursday I think you'll be okay... but that said be out on the platform if you see a crowd and you should get a seat!
