Hi Does a Rome to Florence regionale ticket allow a stopover in Orvieto then reboard later in the day, Or is it necessary to have a ticket for each leg ? Thanks
You need to break the ticket in 2 because regional tickets have a maximum validity of 120 minutes.
Many thanks
Last time I bought a Regionale train ticket in Italy, the train journey had to be complete within 6 hours after validation. If you buy a Regionale ticket online (coupled with a Frecci train), it's pre-validated and good for much less time. At least my recent one from Assisi to Rome was. Your Regionale train journey from Rome to Florence will take about 3.5hrs so that uses up a lot of the 6 hours if 1) the ticket is still good for 6 hours (this could have been changed) and, 2) you buy the ticket there. When you buy a Regionale ticket in Italy, it's a ticket from Point A to Point B and it's good for any Regionale train making that run for up to 60 days (unless that has changed as well). You are looking for a hop off/hop on feature. Yes it technically can be done but it's a bit risky on this journey. Many travelers try it at Pisa when the train stops there on the way to the CT. Simply buy a Regionale ticket from Rome to Orvieto and one from Orvieto to Florence. Validate each just before you board the train. Stay in Orvieto as long as you wish and don't worry. Use your second ticket when ready.
