We are traveling to Rome and will be there Friday through Monday. I have read in several other cities that places are closed on Mondays. Is that the case in Rome?

I was just in Rome a few weeks ago Sunday through Wednesday and found plenty to do on the days you asked about. I would save the Basilica for Sunday as it is open then as suggested. We toured the Colleseum and the Roman Forum on Monday. We got there when the gates opened at the Forum at 9 and were first in line. Since we left mid afternoon, we saved the last day to catch up on some sights that we didn't get to see like the Spanish Steps as well as some of the piazzas and also to do some last minute shopping.
