Rome on standby

Can we show up in Rome without lodging reservations? We are going at the end of July. We would like to stay in a B & B. We will only stay 3 nights. Is there a place to look for openings the day we get there?

As Donna pointed out you'll be arriving at the height of the tourist season and will be left with the least desirable rooms that are most likely at the highest prices. I'd make a few email enquiries now if you can.

July is high season so I would suggest making a reservation where ever you wish to stay. If not, you run the risk of not finding a room or finding a room outside of the city. donna

If you'll have internet access, you can hop on booking.com or venere.com on landing and see what places have availability. Also, the TI at the airport might be of help.

Bev, There's NO WAY I'd "show up in Rome" at the height of tourist season without Hotel reservations. While it may be possible to find a room, it may be well outside your budget range or located in a "less desirable" area of the city. The advantages of pre-booking are that you can choose Hotels in the price range you prefer and in the part of the city you want to stay in. I'd suggest getting something booked SOON! Happy travels!
