ROME on New Years Day

Day 3 of our trip will be NYD. Most places will be closed. Can anybody recommend a good walking itinerary that would be fun even if stores/restaurants/museums are closed?

Thanks!

Go to the Borghese Park which will be open and full of Roman families enjoying the holiday. You can rent a bicycle cart for two or four people or row around the little lake for around 20 euro. There's an antique water clock to see and the view over Piazza del Popolo is great. This year Rome's Christmas tree will be in the piazza due to subway construction in Piazza Venezia, and it will still be up on New Year's Day. There is also a Christmas market in Piazza Navona which should still be in full swing, if you want something in another part of town.

Christmas World is reported to still be running in Villa Borghese (the park) up to 1/7/2024. Hours for Jan 1. are 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Also open on the 31st from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Tickets look to be € 23.50 per adult for timed-entry tickets through Ticketone.it. Might be fun.

The event website is in Italian; use a translation tool.

Most guidebooks provide self-guided walking routes, or use the 3 linked by CL in the post above this one.

Editing to add: The Van Gogh Experience also looks to be open on Jan. 1. For info and link for tickets:

I'd still check on Jan 1 open hours for St Peter's, and I think you could find some other churches open as well, such as...
