Rome on New Year's Eve & Day?

What can we expect to be open/closed? Museums, churches, shops, cafes, groceries?

We'll have done the Vatican Museums-Sistine-St. Peter's on 12/31 - hence be pooped/sated/o.d.'d/maybe ravenous, who knows -

& are staying in Prati. Looking for low-key eating, maybe fireworks, a neighborhood experience vs. Times Square craziness.

Then maybe just meander on 1/1 - last of our four (yup, not enough) days in Rome (after 2 wks Tuscany & Umbria) - Tiber boat ride? the Befana market at Piazza Popolo? any suggestions?

Molte grazie!

Most museum web sites list the days they are closed, so you can check on those you think you might want to visit. Churches may be harder to get info on in advance, but remember that January 1 is a Sunday, so you'll need to avoid the periods when services are taking place in working churches.

A boat ride on the river (is there such a thing?) would be pretty anti-climactic, since the walls are so high. There are some graffiti exhibitions on the wall viewable from the river. A nice stroll along the Lungotevere would be nice, have dinner in the Jewish Ghetto (reserve ahead), tour that area, cross over the bridge to Trastevere.
