Rome on Monday

OK, I've read all the materials, I've bought Rick's Italy book, and I still need some help. My wife and I are going on a Tuscany tour, and we're extending to Rome Sunday-Tuesday. We'll do the ancient Rome tour, with a guide, on Sunday afternoon (Forum, etc.). On a prior trip, we did the Vatican to our complete satisfaction. So we have a Monday, when all the major sites are closed, that we need to fill. How should we spend our Monday?

All is not lost. The following are open Monday: Pantheon, St. Peter in Chains Church, Baths of Diocletian, Santa Maria della Vittoria, Rome from the Sky (atop Vittorio Emanuel Monument), Galleria Doria Pamphilj. Rick Steves' "Pilgrim's Rome" tour (See his Rome book) features several great churches that are all open. It's a lovely walk, too. We really liked San Clemente with its three layers of history, and San Giovanni in Laterano is magnificent, too, even for this Lutheran girl!

My research for our trip in May shows the following options for Mondays: You can do the Vittoriano (the big white "typewriter") and the Rome From The Sky elevator to get an amazing view of the city. It's on the backside of the Vittoriano memorial. Also nearby are Galleria Doria Pamphilj and Theatre of Marcellus. Open on Mondays. You can visit the Borghese Gardens (but not the museum). Most churches are open on Mondays. You could go see the Caravaggio Paintings inside San Luigi dei Francesi Church (NE of Piazza Navona). Their hours are weird - Weekdays 10-12:30 and 4-7. You could go to the Villa Farnesina in the Janiculum and the Botanical Gardens. There's the Aqueduct park. I'm sure there's more. Have a great time. Isn't Rome amazing?

Excellent suggestions. I've come up with a full day of very good places to go. Thanks.
