Rome on a Sunday

Will be in Rome Dec 14 thru Dec 16. I know some tours are shut down on a Sunday. Would love to get some recommendations for a Sunday in Rome. I plan on doing a Trastevere walking good tour Saturday night and the Vatican on Monday and will mix the Colusseum in there somewhere (maybe Sunday).

Really most museums and historic sites are open. This is the daily reminder from Rick's Rome book:

Sunday: These sights are closed: the Vatican Museums (except the last Sun of the month, when it’s free and more crowded), Villa Farnesina (except the second Sun of the month), Catacombs of San Sebastiano, and Testaccio Market. In the morning, the Porta Portese flea market opens, and the old center is delightfully quiet. Much of the Appian Way is closed to traffic and fun to stroll.

We enjoyed Eating Italy’s Sunday tour through the Jewish Ghetto. Guide was knowledgeable and food was good. https://www.eatingeurope.com/rome/rome-sunday-tour/
Afterwards we walked to the Rose Garden across from Circus Maximus. Then we gradually walked back to our hotel near Piazza Navona. It was cold and rainy in the afternoon so we stopped at several coffee and pastry shops to warm up.

You might also want to consider a tour of the Domus Aurea on Sunday. It’s a working archeological site across the street and up the hill from the Colosseum that only gives tours on the weekends. There website is easy to navigate and there is an English translation every step of the way. Of further benefit is that it’s inside, in case it’s raining, but dress warmly because it is chilly.

Whether or not you are Catholic, or even Christian, the Pope's "Angelus" is a powerful experience. Sunday, noon, in front of St. Peter's. It only takes 10-15 minutes. Only in Rome!
