We will be visiting our college age daughters who are studying in Rome. Can anyone recommend things to do in or near Rome besides the main attractions ?
Hi Susan, someone else (Jen) recently asked this same question in this forum and received some very good recommendations. I copied and pasted the link here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/unusual-ideas-for-rome
Here's another recent thread started by someone looking for the less-visited attractions.

I don't think that a long walk on the Appia Antica was on that list; our favorite day so far in Rome. Lots to see along the way.

Just curious, from your previous posts it appears that your son and your daughters all either are studying or have studied in Rome. I would think they might be very good resources as well for corners they've explored during their free time? Will also note that you've been to Venice and Florence so this isn't your first rodeo to The Boot. Can we also assume you've been to Rome and done the biggies, thus your question? :O)
The Walks of Italy tour company has the following tour: https://www.walksofitaly.com/rome-tours/hidden-gems-rome-driving-tour/. Taking the tour looks really fun, but even if you donโt, you could get some good ideas just from reading the tour description.
