Rome October Rainy Season wear what?

We will be visiting Rome in mid October. I have read it's the "rainy" season and around the 70's during the day with 50's during the night. We are from Dallas, Texas. We rarely have rain and those temps are usually our winter. I usually wear sweaters and a coat during that type of weather. It's okay to laugh at that. The boyfriend does. :)- But, I am stressing about what to pack/wear for this type of weather in Rome. Since it's a city, I'm aware they dress less casually than my usual vacation wear: dark jeans and a shirt. We have acquired the most important items - moneybelt/wallet and a PacSafe "purse". I've been searching for knit type clothing, in darker colors, and can't seem to find any travel clothing that isn't, well...too expensive in my opinion. Please help with some ideas.

Where what you are comfortable in. If it's raining there will be vendors selling umbrellas everywhere.

Melissa,
I agree with Richard. Be comfortable in what you wear. Don't run out and buy a bunch of clothes that you would not normally wear at home. Make sure you have comfortable shoes (you'll probably want to avoid white tennis shoes, though). Tie a long scarf around your neck to dress up your outfits, and you'll feel right at home. I'm guessing you are young (under 40). In Rome, the local young folks wear jeans A LOT, even in the evening. You will not feel out of place. You might want to pack pair of nicer slacks if you plan to enjoy a meal or two at a nicer restaurant. You'll want a sweater (especially for the evenings, as well as for on plane), and possibly a light jacket. Check the www.accuweather.com long-range weather forecast for Rome on line a day or two before you leave. Key tips: pack light and enjoy your trip. You'll need fewer outfits than you might think.

I hope that you read this with a sense of humor. I have plenty of friends and relatives all over Texas. Given what Texans have been through in the dry blistering heat, I would expect that a Texan caught in a warm autumn downpour in Rome would joyfully reinact Gene Kelly's Dancing In The Rain scene. :)

You will be fine in jeans and tshirts, just make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes as you will be doing alot of walking! Being from someplace warm myself, I was worried just like you. I brought a lightweight fleece jacket and a few scarves to either tie around my neck or wrap around me for extra warmth. The souvenir shops and vendors (the guys walking around) sell scarves too so you can buy from them, pretty reasonable too, you can bargain with them. Bring an umbrella in case it rains, but as someone else said if it does rain, those same vendors will pop out with umbrellas for sale. I was there last October and I remember wishing I had brought a pair of capri pants because I got a litte warm in my jeans. Since I live by the beach, and live in flipflops, I did bring my Skechers Shape up flipflops and wore them a few times. . The mornings and evenings were cool but it got pretty warm during the day. Enjoy your visit and have lots of gelato! Use your moneybelt properly and keep some euros in your purse for spending money. Please PM me if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help.
