I will be spending next week in Rome. We have been there a couple times before, seeing many of the "typical" tourist spots. I love people watching, listening to music in a casual setting, having a good spot for coffee and journal writing, and enjoying a glass of wine--hopefully with some "real" Italians instead of more tourists. Can anyone suggest some good spots?
I can suggest some resources with ideas: http://www.revealedrome.com/ http://www.spottedbylocals.com/rome/ http://italiannotebook.com When you find some of those great spots, I hope you'll come back and share!
Thanks! Excellent sites!
Don't forget one of the best sites about Rome - www.roninrome.com
In RS's book he talks about Campo De Fiori. Great spot to hang out at night. And there is a small restaurant just off the campo called Filetti de Bacala. The place is very authentic and full of locals. To find it ask where the Chiesa Piquina to Santa Barbara (my Italian spelling might be off a little). Great thing is that it's not expensive.
Judi, if you want to get away from the tourist area, take Bus #63 from TRITONE/BARBERINI (across the street from the metro) and get off at NEMORENSE/VERBANO. It's about a 15-minute bus ride, give or take. You will be in a real Italian neighborhood, and there is a lovely little cafe right on Via Nemorense by the Verbano roundabout. It's not fancy, but the tables are outside and you can people-watch to your heart's content. :) If that cafe doesn't appeal, then just walk back the way you came via bus and you'll find many cafes and little shops between the NEMORENSE/VERBANO stop and BUENOS AIRES (about a 10-minute walk). When you want to head back to the main tourist area, just catch the #63 or 630 back to Barberini.
I would say try following: L'oasi Della Birra (piazza Testaccio) Enoteca Trimani - Via Goito
Enoteca Costantini - Piazza Cavour L'oasi della Birra is well know for beers collection besides wine list. If you go for the top then it is Trimani cheers
