Rome Newbie Needs Neighborhood Check

We are considering an apt. located on Via del Leoncino at Via Tomacelli, but really don't know if this is a good location. It's about 1km from the subway, so that's a consideration. Don't mind walking, if it's in a good location, and the walk would be relatively safe. Thanks. See location here:

It's a good area. You'll be close to the Spanish steps. I doubt that you'll need to use the metro much since you'll be so close to many of the sites. Donna

I stayed a couple blocks away and walked the neighborhood late in the evenings. No hint of trouble. The area is between, but not in places where you will want to be in during the evening. The area is a short walk to the Spanish steps area and, for me, the late walks back from Navonna and C. dei Fiori were enjoyable, once I learned how to walk and eat gelato at the same time. If you not want to walk, you might consider a hotel in one of the main areas for cafes and restaurants. Google Maps is a great resource for this, as is the RS book on Rome..

Rome is very safe, so that's not a problem. Did you grab the little Google guy and him over that area to be able to see the streetview? Personally I prefer either the Navona/Pantheon/Campo dei Fiori neighborhoods.
