Hello! My husband and I will be returning to Rome in April of this year. This will be our third trip to Italy in two years (my husband and I are obsessed). Since we’ve seen all the major sites, our plan for this trip is to relax, get lost, drink wine, and EAT. We decided to spend each day in a different neighborhood. We’re staying in Testaccio, so we’ll spend our first day here, knowing we’ll only need about half a day to explore this small neighborhood. WE will then spend a day in Trastevere, the city center, Monti, Prati, and Aqueduct Park. We’re also doing a two-day trip to Naples. So, we have one full day left. Is there another neighborhood we should check out? I was hoping there’s another “must-see” neighborhood we might be missing, like Pigneto or the San Lorenzo quarter. I can’t find much information on these areas. Anything off the beaten path!
Keeping in mind you have the impact of the Easter holiday, (and the weeks before and after,) along with the Pope's Jubilee, I would recommend a neighborhood outside of Rome. The Jubilee alone is expected to bring in over 10 million more visitors to Rome in 2025. Good luck finding lodging and I wish you a memorable trip. Safe travels!
Thanks for the tip! But we already have an Airbnb booked in Testaccio. Im just looking for a new neighborhood in Rome to spend the day, that is off the beaten path, that I have not already visited.
Quartiere Coppedè.
Yes, Quartiere Coppedè, although it won't take more than half a day.
Also, wander around Garbatella --- interesting architecture & history, and good places to eat (we stayed there for 4 nights but it was 10 years ago, so I don't remember where we ate). Garbatella is not on any beaten path: https://anamericaninrome.com/2019/11/rome-garbatella-guide/

Testaccio may take longer than you think to explore! It remains our favorite neighborhood in Rome after many trips staying in various neighborhoods --- I'm glad you are staying there.
We just spent a month in Rome. Here’s a full day for you —
Take a bus to Borghese Gallery. The art is wonderful, and the gardens are worth a visit. Then walk to the Parioli neighborhood. It’s a real neighborhood with shops and restaurants. Stop in the little shops — the owners will be happy to chat. Coppede is also close by. It’s a tiny and unique place with a gorgeous fountain.
Our favorite, local restaurant? Osteria Chiana on via Agri (Angola via Chiana) which is just a couple of blocks from the fountain.
Check your map to make sure this is a walkable plan, but I’m pretty sure it is and it would make a full day visit to parts of Rome off the beaten path. Oh the buses do run from Testacchio to Borghese and Borghese to The Coppede neighborhood.)
I hope this helps.
Thank you for the suggestions! I just read the articles for Garbatella and this is exactly what we are looking for. I'm very excited to see a new neighborhood!
I have been to Quartier Coppede once before. My husband and I took the bus to the Pricilla Catacombs in the morning and spent the rest of the day walking all the way back to Trastevere where we were staying. We walked through the Quartier Coppede that day. That was one of my most memorable days... just walking the entire day back, stopping along the way.
