Rome neighborhoods

We are a retired couple who want to stay in Rome for a month. We've been to Vatican City twice so we don't need to see that section of the city again. We would like an old neighborhood within walking distance of the Forum, Pantheon, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lucky you two; I can vouch for hotel accommodations in Trastevere near Santa Maria, spots in Campo d' Fiori vicinity and beds near Piazza Navona. I suppose you'll be making your longer-term stay (hope it's the month of May, favorite of mine to be in Rome) in other than an albergo or locando and you just need to search rione in Rome to find the one that speaks to you. I will say I think Prati is a really, really great neighborhood. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, hmm?

Listen to Theresa, I especially like Trastevere. The Hotel Smeraldo is a good location in Campo di Fiori that's across the River Tiber from Trastevere.

Look at the Monti neighborhood as it fits what you are looking for.

After staying in many different neighborhoods over the years, Prati remains my choice: residential, relaxed street life in the evenings, good restaurants in a variety of prices. Walking distance to the Pantheon.

We stayed in Monti area - and loved it!! It was so convenient to then walk and enjoy so much and details of ruins, so easy to get all around to other parts of town with scenic walks on foot the whole time (other than Vatican visit)
