Rome: Neighborhood to stay in before tour

Hello Lovely Travelers,

I'm currently looking for suggestions on which neighborhoods would be best for the few nights prior to the beginning of the Heart of Italy Rick Steve's Tour. Also, I'm currently thinking about using AirBnB to find a place but if you can recommend a different place- I'm interested in hearing your opinion. We are a party of 3 needing 3 bedrooms.

Thanks in advance!

Have you considered getting Rick's Rome book? It's loaded with info on quite a few neighborhoods and then you can pick something that matches your particular needs, tastes and interests. You've got lots of options.

We were in Rome just a few days ago and really enjoyed staying in the Trastevere neighborhood. We did not stay at a B&B but at Hotel Trastevere. It was located on a quiet backstreet and it was an easy walk to sites and restaurants.

We booked a flat using VRBO (family of 4 2beds/2 baths and a pullout in the main living area, in the Prati area, my sister just booked at this B&B- www.freedominrome.com it has private bathrooms, A/C WIFI and says it offers breakfast- but I don't know that I would expect much.. It's a nice central location- easy to walk to sites or hop on transportation...

We stayed at Colosseo Dreams near the Colosseum -- the place only has 3 bedrooms, but includes a central kitchen/sitting area. Breakfast is coffee, juice and roll at a bar down the street -- we bought cereal and milk at a local grocery as a supplement. If you could book all three bedrooms (each has a very nice private, but across-the-hall, bathroom) I would recommend .

I generally stay in Trastevere. Love the quaint neighborhood (also close to my relatives). Not as convenient for some sights, but since you are doing the tour later, it's excellent to introduce you to Roma.

Moving from one hotel or apt. to another is a pain in the anatomy and waste a lot of time to boot. The RS office should be able to let you know what the first hotel will be. Email the hotel directly and tell them you will be joining a RS tour and explain your accommodation needs to them. Quite often the hotel will have space and you wont have to change hotels or rooms when the tour begins.
