Rome neighborhood that's quiet at night

Our family of four is looking for an apartment in an area of Rome that quiets down at night. We are hoping for a spot where we can walk to some of the sights, safe enough for evening strolling, but maybe around a corner from the noise and nightlife. Campo di Fiori sounds noisier than we would like. Near Termini stations sounds like an option. Any other areas you would recommend?

Hi Cindy,

I'm going to Rome end of May and am staying at Le Finestre sul Vaticano B&B. The website is: www.romabandb.it. The owners Max & Lavinia have gotten great reviews on this website. It's located near the Vatican so from what I can tell it's a safer/quieter neighborhood. They were also very reasonable for the price. I would recommend you contact them and see if they have any rooms for when you're going.

Have a great time! :-)

Also in the Vatican area, I'd recommend Alex's B&B. We stayed there recently and loved it - we basically got a vacation apartment in a quiet building between the Vatican and the Ottaviano metro station for 80 euros/night.

Termini is our preferred location but I would not view it as being "quiet." Not real noisy either but busy. One of reasons we think it is safe to walk in is because of all the street activity until very late evening. We have never had any noise problems in that area except for the jack hammer busting up the street one morning.

Agree with the others--if you want quiet, go for the Vatican neighborhood. It's a little out of the historic center, but still easily accessible via metro or bus. We stayed at Hotel Alimandi, and they have several options at various price ranges.

Surprisingly, an area very near the Colosseum ie the block of streets around via Capo d Africa (Celio district) is as quiet as it gets in a city like Rome. It is mainly a residential area with little supermarkets, cafes and restaurants just 5 mins from the ancient Roman sites, Metro and bus stops. There are also at least two parks to enjoy. We felt very safe staying there.
