Rome neighborhood

I’m trying to narrow down the area of where I’ll try and find an Airbnb in Rome for next year. I’ve heard so many great things about Trastevere, but have also been told it’s further out. A few people have said not easy to get to from the airport. We will want to see the famous sights, Vatican, The David, Colosseum, etc., so I didn’t know of this area will be the best choice. Can we walk to those areas from Trastevere? Trying to stay on a budget, so I also don’t know what it would cost if we need transportation to Vatican, and the other places.
Wondering if we should try and find another area more centralized? Monti Perhaps?

In Rome there are 2 airports. If you are flying into FCO, these people are wrong: there is a direct airport train, the FL1, that goes from the airport station to Trastevere. It's a little slower than the Express to Roma Termini, but it's also cheaper.

It's 1.5 km from Trastevere to the Pantheon, 3 Kms to Saint Peter's Sq.

ps The David is in Florence.

There's an easy bus that runs from the Vatican along the river to Trastevere.

Avoid the Piazza Giuditta Tavani Arquati in Trastevere because it is louder than being at a rock concert, and till 2 am, loud every night.

Trastevere is not “further out”
It is just across the river from the historical center
You can walk everywhere from Trastevere, it’s more central than Monti

Trastevere is great for site seeing and evening dinner. If you are thinking it might be too far from other sites, I have two thoughts: 1) you'll see lots of wonderful things on the walk; and 2) try looking at the Piazza Navona area for an apartment. It really is amazing how close everything is. It's also amazing how much there is to see between points A and B!
The closer you are to the church Santa Maria in Trastevere, the shorter the walk to the Vatican, Pantheon, Forum, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain etc. Yes, it's busy and loud but are you going to Rome for 'peace and quiet'?
I usually train from FCO to Roma Termini and then taxi to my apartment. Going back to FCO, I use a car service or taxi - very reasonable and really easy!

Thank you everyone! Good to know all of this! Also, had to chuckle that I accidentally wrote David, knowing it’s in Florence. LOL! Been a long day and have been looking at WAY too much .😂 Thanks again, feeling better about finding a place.

As usual I have to stick my contrarian and thrifty nose into the discussion -- sure, stay on the other side of the river (the east side) but farther north closer to the Lepanto station, and you'll find that lodging is a better value and that the hustle and bustle has more of modern Rome to it and a little less of tourists searching for I,Claudius re-enactors.

This is assuming that walking is enjoyable for your party, since you have to add getting across the bridge over to Piazza del Popolo before you fan out in the historic triangle.

The piazza I referred to had 8 ft speakers pointed right at our building at full volume till 2 am, it was a vendor selling CDs.

I don't consider myself a cranky complainer, but I did go out into the street at 1 am looking for the Candid Camera people, since I couldn't believe it was an ordinary occurrence, yet it repeated nightly.
