Rome Museum tickets for Children

Do American children get reduced ticket prices for Colosseum and Borghese? Or are only EU children are eligible for discounts?

I can address your question from the senior end: my husband is over 65 and he gets the discount (ridotto) erratically. He was admitted free to Ostia Antica, but at Villa d'Este they said the ridotto was only for EU citizens. Palazzo della Esposizioni also give the discount. So...all you can do is ask. Italians are very generous toward children, so ask nicely and see!

The rules for seniors and children are different. Seniors do not get these reductions
unless they are EU citizens (which doesn't mean that someone might not get them
occasionally because the ticket agent doesn't check the passport or doesn't
bother enforcing the rule) Children are free at most museums regardless of
nationality; this is a recent change in Italian policy.

I don't know about the Colosseum and Borghese specifically. It depends on
what agency they are controlled by etc. Have you checked their web sites?
It clearly state on the Borghese website that free admission for those 17 and under
is reserved for EU citizens so either they haven't updated their site or
this policy has not been applied to the Borghese. Because the policy applied to American
kids is somewhat new you may need to just assume and ask and hope for the best.

I bought tickets online to the Colosseum a few days ago for our family. Under 18 years old is free (except for 2 euro convenience fee) regardless of nationality .

You don't need to ask for the discount for children. It is automatic. Anyone under 18 gets in for free to state run sites. Private sites make their own rules. This doesn't apply at the Vatican as it's a different country.

EU citizens over 65 get in for free. All others pay regular prices.

What it comes down to is just checking with those particular sites and museums you are interested. Fortunately most of that can be found online.
