Rome: Monti or Trastevere ?

Hi !

we will be in Rome for five night in july (first time there !) and we are looking at two appartement:

1) Trastevere on Via di Ponti Sisto. Vvery near Ponti Sisto. It's less expensive thna the one on monty (20 euro by night)

2) Monti: Near Via Paolina between Carvour metro and Tremini station.

We will arrive by plane (FCO), and the only daytrip we would (maybe) make is Ostia antica.

We are looking to walk everywhere and come back in the afternoon to take a nap and have wonderful meals.

Which one would you choose ?

thanks !

Hi We stayed in Monti 2015. We very much enjoyed this neighorhood. On our previous trip we had stayed in Camp d'Fiori
Monti was close to St Peter in Chains and Santa Maria Maggiore. also close to ancient Roman sites. Carvour metro was helpful in getting us to Vatican. Great food in this neighborhood. I have not stayed in Trastevere, only visited during the same trip. Enjoy

Based on your criteria, the Trastevere location seems to be the better fit. There are more sights that are walkable and there are more nearby restaurants to choose from. Some sights would be more easily accessed by tram (e.g Piazza Venezia) or bus (e.g. Vatican). Downside is that Via di Ponte Sisto could be somewhat noisy, especially on weekend evenings, but maybe not in the afternoon. The Monti location is close to Santa Maria Maggiore, so in a quieter area but with longer walks to many sights. You'd probably use the Metro or bus more than if staying in Trastevere. All said, both are good locations.
