Hello all. Are there any week-long metro tickets in Rome or 10 trip tickets or something similar? Thank you in advance for all responses. Much appreciated.
Yes. You want the Integrated weekly card (CIS). It is widely available in machines and (often) at Tabacchi shops. They are 24 euros each.
Forget about passes on the metro. It is very limited and really doesn't go anywhere. You need to use the buses and tram. And taxis are reasonable in Rome but you have to use a taxi stop as they will not respond to a wave in the street.
I think if you buy any sort of tickets at a Tabak, you'll have to pay cash. I understand you can now use a tappable credit card on the metro; I'm not sure about buses and trams.
You can now tap on Metro, bus and tram:
For summoning cabs, you can use an app such as FreeNow or itTaxi.
Here's integrated weekly pass. works for metro, buses, trams and urban trains (Trenitalia 2nd class only; Roma-Lido, Termini -Centocelle and Roma-Viterbo). It doesn't cover trains to/from the airport.
Thank you all for the responses. Trying to help a friend, will forward information. Grazie.
The metro is pretty worthless as Rome transport -- it is probably ideal for people who need to commute from the burbs. Except from the Colosseum area to the Vatican we never bothered with it. The trams are more convenient transport -- and the place is pretty small so walking is your best bet
I would disagree. Unless things have radically changed since we were in Rome in February 2017, we utilized our 24 Euro weekly Metro & bus pass to our advantage. Granted, it doesn't go everywhere, and oft times you have to funnel through Termini, but we had enough time to do it over a week's time and get bang for our buck. Probably took 15-18 trips/legs in total.
Regarding trams, if the friend is traveling soon he/she will encounter some closures of that particular mode of transport, although buses will be substituted:
